What Causes Redness And Itchiness On The Ankle?

Rash on my ankle on one leg- red and itching at first ,sore to touch ,better the next day after application of a local antibiotic cream , still there atfer three days- have applied baking soda compress not painful but quite warm to touch and is not improving

Hi,

There are two main things to consider: one is arthritis (gout for example) and the other is cellulitis. Arthritis is treated with ibuprofen and paracetamol and cold compresses which cellulitis is other than these will need antibiotics as well.

You can try some ibuprofen and paracetamol plus the cold compresses locally every few hours for 20 minutes.

If you notice no improvement with these or you notice any worsening then cellulitis is very likely and you will need to see a doctor and get oral antibiotics.
