Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My right eye is very red and bloody. It feels like a piece of sand or something is in there and I did have an allergic reaction to a cat which caused swelling in my eye and very itchy. Is there anything I can do to reduce the bleeding and anything I should not do. Is it OK to exercise and continue normal activity? Thank you.
HI, Allergic reaction to cat dander has most probably caused an allergic conjunctivitis. You need not worry about the red color. It is not bleeding. It is just dilated blood vessels of your conjunctiva. The best treatment for this is to use artificial tears/refresh tears every 2 hourly or even more frequently and use warm compresses to reduce your foreign body sensation. Also it is ok to carry on your normal activity and exercise. This allergic condition is not infectious/contagious and therefore you can continue to work and meet people. However please avoid frequently rubbing your eye/fingering it as infection can reach your eye from the hand.
Regards Jeffrey
