Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Redness And Itching Sensation On Nose Inspite Of Being On Crestor?
My husband has been taking Crestor for 3 weeks. He is 53 years old. He initially took 20 mg tablets and for the past 3 days has been taking 40 mg tablets. His nose is reddish purplish and itch. Looks similar to that of a long-time alcoholic. Is this a serious side effect?
Definitely statins can cause cold like symptoms of runny and stuffy nose as well as rarely itching & rashes on body. However, these symptoms seem to be occurring in less frequency with Rosuvastatin as compared to Atorvastatin. Also the same lipid lowering effect of Rosuvastatin is with minimum doses out of all statins. Therefore you may try 10 or 20 mg of Rosuvastatin in place of Crestor, under guidance of your doctor.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
