What Causes Redness And Itching Sensation On The Back Despite Using Cortisone Cream?

I am having wound care every other day and I have now developed a horrible solid rash on my back where I am getting treated. I have applied cortisone, but doesn t relieve the itch or redness. I have had so many tapes, apd s, saline and clensers that I don t really know what has caused this, but every day it is getting worse.

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hi.
As per your case history you are having allergic contact dermatitis.
My treatment advice is -
1. Don't apply any cleanser or bandage as it may worsen the condition.
2. Instead of cortisone you need to apply a more potent steroid cream like mometasone cream or betamethasone cream twice daily on it.
3. Take an antihistamine medication like levocetrizine twice daily for itching.
4. Other treatment options are oral steroid like prednisone and potent antihistamine like hydroxyzine taken only after consulting a dermatologist.

Thanks.
