What Causes Redness And Soreness Around Clitoral Area?
I am a 26 year old female. I have redness on my clitoral hood. My period is just ending and I have switched to a new soap, but my first thought was a UTI. I took an at home test, and I had trace amounts of white blood cells in my urine. It does not hurt to urinate, but there is a cinstant soreness in the area that is red. Do you think it is a uti?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, I understand your concern. UTI is characterised by frequency/ burning/ scanty urination some times with fever ,back/ lower abdominal ache. Get urine checked for routine & microscopic test. The redness/soreness of clitoris you have seems to be due to local irritation-which can result due to friction, itching( vaginal fungal infection. / Friction due to sanitary towel/allergy to new soap). - Be careful about genital/menstrual hygiene, - Clean the area with warm water ,/ change the soap - Change sanitary towel frequently( at least thrice a day) wear smooth, loose fitting undergarment - Apply antibiotic & betamethasone ointment. - Exclude vaginal infection /take doctor's advise to treat it. Thanks.
