What Causes Redness And Soreness In The Eye?

I have redness in one eye that has persisted for a little more than one week. It doesn t drain and is not swollen or sore to the touch. I have used eye drops which does give some relief; but the redness reoccurs. I am concerned because it has not gone away completely and this is week number 2.
