What Causes Redness And Swelling Around A Cartridge Piercing?

Hi, I recently just got a cartridge piercing about a week ago. It was healing up find with little to no discomfort until one night I slept on it and woke up with it completely red and swollen. For two days I have experienced throbbing sensations and heat from my ear as well as numbness that I can slightly feel on my neck. Is this some type of reaction meaning it is infected, or maybe I hit a nerve?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Your symptoms seem to be related to an infection.

I suggest using anti-inflammatory medication such as Ibuprofen.

I also recommend cleaning around the piercing with a saltwater rinse three times a day.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
