What Causes Redness And Swelling Around An Appendectomy Incision?

Hello, I had emergency appendectomy 3weeks ago. the incision right above my belly button has a small red, swollen spot. It feels quite irritated when I brush against it. There was a super tiny white spot that I kinda pushed on a a tiny amount of white came out. The spot is about the size of pencil head eraser. I am so hoping it s not a little hernia. Thoughts? Thanks much, Elizabeth

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

A hernia will not happen this fast. It can be a minor wound infection.

You can apply topical antibiotic ointments like Mupirocin after cleaning with soap and water.

If symptoms persist, better to consult your surgeon and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
