What Causes Redness And Swelling Around The Ear Piercing Site?
Noticed my daughter s ear looked red and swollen around earrings get she had pierced 6 months ago. Looked crusty when I began cleaning it again. Stayed that way for a few days. Cleaning it tonight I was starting to worry so I took the earring out to get a better look. It was very infected and she had a layer of skin that had stabbed and was pulling away from her lope. I saw what looked like white puss so I cleaned and that scab, best way to describe it, came off. So now she has a hole in her lope. I cleaned it and put a bandaid on it so nothing could get in and to catch any blood. She has no fever, no complaints of hurting other than when I touch it. How worried should I be and what kind of infection am I dealing with? Will having her pediatrician call in antibiotics be enough?
The redness and swelling around ear piercing site indicates possible soft tissue infection with staph aureus most likely. Need prescription of antibiotics as amoxicillin with anti inflammatory medication as ibuprofen for a period of 3-5 days to get cured at earliest.
