What Causes Redness And Swelling At The Site Of Drawing Blood?

I donated blood about 3 weeks ago. I ve donated many times in the past and never had any problems. About 2 weeks after this last donation though the site scabbed up and then the scab fell off and the injection site became red and raised. About a week ago I formed hives around the site and they are still there. Should I get this looked at or wait for it to pass?
