What Causes Redness And Swelling In The Ear Lobe?

Hi, My 11 month old son s top part of ear lobe is swollen and red. Also he got lots of red bumps/blemish on his face and leg. I suspect mosquito bites. However, the ear lobe swelling seems to be bothering him. He is constantly scratching . No fever, feeds well and plays well and is active. We came to India a week back from US. He never had these before.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

I hear that you feel swelling on the left side of your face and under your ear. This is probably due to a stone in the parotid salivary duct. This will block the saliva and will back up into the gland. The best thing right now is to massage the gland and eat sour lemon drops. Then lemon drops will increase salivation and help push the stone out. If that does not dislodge the stone then you may need to see an ENT specialist to open the duct to allow the stone to pass.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Iven Romic Rommstein, General Surgeon
