What Causes Redness And Swelling In The Elbow Post Insect Bite?

On Tuesday I got stung by a bee right above where my arm bends. And I took 50mg of Benadryl within 15 minutes. And the area is real swollen and red. The swollen area is spreading and so is the redness. My whole arm is extremely sore. Is this normal or do I need to go to the emergency room

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that you have got a severe allergic reaction to the Bee bite leading to swelling in the area and extending to the entire arm and causing redness and pain..
Nothing to worry as it will get resolved gradually as the effect of the toxic chemical released by the bee stinger under the skin will subside..
As of now you should continue to take Benadryl and you can also take other anti allergics like Levocetrizine, Allegra etc..
Do cool compresses over the area..
You can take anti-inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen to relieve pain and discomfort..
In case I f condition worsen or there is no.improvement in 3 to 4 days consult an Allergist and get evaluated and he can advise you injectable steroids to relieve the symptoms..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
