Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I am 80 yrs old. I had some gum redness and swelling. Dentist gave me omnacorti for 10 days. It was ok for few days. Again the gum redness started. I went to him and again he has given me omnacorti for one weeks two time, next half tablet and one more week half tab. Is it safe to take this considering my age. I had some blood tests. All r within normal limits. Thanks
Well, gum swelling and redness can be most probably due to gum Infection or can also be due to some form of Allergic reaction..
Omnacortil is a steroid and taking steroids without proper prescription or requirements is not advisable at any age..
Also if your gums are infected then omnacortil will give temporary relief and you would need antibiotics for relief..
So my advice is to consult a Periodontist and discuss about the exact cause of gum redness so that appropriate treatment can be advised to you..
If the symptoms are due to gum infection then deep scaling followed by antibiotics like Metronidazole, gum paint massage and warm saline gargles will relieve you..
Hope this helps..
Regards.
