What Causes Redness And Swelling In The Hand At The Site Of Methodone Shot?

My husband is 36, he s fit and healthy, rarely gets sick. But he is In meth addict. He missed the vein when injecting in top part of his wrist. The injection site looks like a small ant bite. It formed a water blister that he popped and put Neosporin on. But his hand is red, swollen, throbbing and warm. he s in agony. He refuses to go to the ER. Is he in danger of dying? What should I do? How can I treat this?

dermatologic conditions are hard to discuss without seeing them. It could be just a chemical irritation, it could be infection (in which case it is likely to have spreading signs of inflammation) or it could be a small area of gangrene due to methamphetamine cutting off blood supply. The non-serious ones stabilize and look a bit better in hours (the question has been up for days). The serious ones get worse in a day. THen there are other signs like fevver, chills, shakes, sweats which mean it is really serious.
