What Causes Redness And Swelling Of Nose Despite Being Diagnosed With Strep Throat?

I had a strep a throat infection about a week ago. 3 days ago I noticed some sores inside my left nostril and used a q - tip to apply otc antibiotic ointment. All seemed okay but last night I noticed my nose was red, render, and swollen (mostly on the left side). I am not stuffy at all but thought maybe a saline rinse would help but it hasn t. I have been taking advil for the discomfort. Should I wait this out or see a physician? Please advise, thank you.

Hi Dear,

Understanding your concern.
As you describe in your query that you had strep throat a week ago , so sore inside your nose in not directly because of that . Some times ingrown hairs and excessive nose picking can cause wound inside nostril .It could be possible that this wound pick infection from nasal discharge during strep throat and turned into swollen and red pimple like lesion .

Pimple inside nose always create discomfort due to their location .But with right treatment they can be treated in few days easily .

So i would suggest you to not to touch it with your hands as this will make it worse .Apply apple cidar vinegar with cotton swab twice a day. Apply ice pack on the nose which give relief from swelling .Also you apply topical nasal spray and can take ibuprofen (anti inflammatory ).

If lesion persists more then a week consult ENT SPECIALIST (ear ,nose ,throat).
