General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

If there is no history of trauma then the acute onset of pain can be due to a type of arthritis. There are a number of different types such as osteoarthritis, RA, lupus, scleroderma, gout.

Your doctor may be able to pinpoint a cause when you are reviewed tomorrow.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
