What Causes Redness In The Cheek After Drinking Alcohol?

Hi , I am 57 year old male. The last few years I have experienced increasing, uncomfortable flushing /redness and hotness in my cheeks and neck. It is especially bad after a big night out with a lot of alcohol. It used to fade after a few days but seems to be there to stay now.I am an Orchardist and work outside all the time, often looking up with my face exposed to the sun a lot. I try to remember sunblock but forget sometimes.I enjoy relaxing with a drink or two after work and with dinner most days.I also eat a lot of spicy food. Will the redness/hotness go away if I give up alcohol and spicy food now? If I do nothing will it get worse or stay the same?

You are experiencing flushing which is one of the adverse effects of alcohol. Spicy food may also aggrevate the condition. Avoid sun exposure as much as possible. Use sunscreen regularly. Also you need to reduce the amount of alcohol you take. Treatment of flushing depends on the underying condition.Beta blockers, clonidine,on densetron are the possible treatment options. Consult your dermatologist regarding the above mentioned therapy. Regards
