What Causes Redness In The Knuckle?

knuckle of my left hand ( middle finger ) has suddenly become bright red , nothing else to see. Did not injury it, no bite, nothing. It is started to get tender with no redness, just below my knuckle going towards my wrist. What is this??? No fever have not been sick strange please help thanks
