What Causes Redness, Itchy Skin While Treating Urinary Tract Infection?

Hi I have recently had a urinary tract infection, and the doctor prescribed Alprim for me to take for 7 days. However, after the 3rd day, I am experiencing redness on skin, itchiness, and a general tiredness. Should I continue and finish the antibiotic medication? Is there a remedy for the side effects mentioned? I have an exam in a couple of days so I do not want to risk anything.

Hi..

Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain in case if you are using Alprim that contains Trimethoprim as an active ingredient and it is an antibiotic..
In case if after taking it there are symptoms of redness of skin, itchiness and tiredness or lethargy, it can be due to allergic reaction or side effect of the antibiotic..
You need to consult your treating physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..
You can be advised to stop the medication and can change the antibiotic and advise you other antibiotics suitable for Urinary Tract Infection like Nitrofurantoin..
You can also take anti allergics like Allegra or Levocetrizine to relieve the redness and itching..
You can also be advised to do cool compresses over the rash and apply Calamine lotion..
You can also be advised steroid ointment..
Drink plenty of water..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
