What Causes Redness On The Shoulder Blade After An Insect Bite?

My wife had a possible bee sting or spider bite last week, redness showed on her right shoulder blade, the next day, redness spread over her entire back, around to sides with stabbing pain on right side, redness faded eventually , but she still has serious pain on right front side near breast, after 10 days, 65 years old, with celiac disease, otherwise in good health. What is it ? blood work last week showed nothing abnormal. She also got a deep tissue massage the same day and soaked in a hot spring, the date it all started!

Hi,

The most important thing is to watch for signs of infection such as pus secretion fever or swelling of extremity and in this case you should see doctor who will probably prescribe antibiotics. Otherwise, you need some kind of antihistaminic ointment.

Also Apply an ice pack to a bite or sting for 15 to 20 minutes once an hour for the first 6 hours. Try a nonprescription medicine for the relief of itching, redness, and swelling such as Benadryl or Chlor-Trimeton. Hydrocortisone 1% cream or calamine lotion may also be helpful. it is important not to scratch or manipulate the wound to prevent infection.

You may cover the wound with a thin layer of petroleum jelly, such as Vaseline, and a nonstick bandage.
