What Causes Reduced Blood Pressure While On Diltiazem?

I am 6 weeks into working my out of a serious bout with Gullian Barre. I had been prescribed Diltiazem 360mg daily before the being stricken. I have be on the Diltiazem for about three years to assist with BP control but primarily for heart rate control in the event of an A-Fib issues. I have not had an episode of A-fib recently, I believe primarily because I have eliminated meloxicam and now daily alcohol from my daily life. My BP is testing very low, generally in the 100/60 range. Are there any cautions I should know about regarding eliminating Diltiazem from my daily prescriptions? Tim

Hi,

* As per my clinical experience, the sudden stoppage of Diltiazem may be disastrous for your cardio health and wellbeing.

* Low blood pressure may be in relation with inhibitory effect via parasympathetic pathway over long term consumption of the Diltiazem.

* Primary management would include

- plenty of liquids
- dose adjustment of Diltiazem
- working out other cause of low blood pressure
- control of blood sugar.
