What Causes Reduced Hearing Upon Tilting The Head Forward?

When I tilt my head forward, the hearing in my left ear is reduced to what sounds like me being underwater. When I tilt my head back however, my hearing returns. I did just recently get out of the ER dignosed with an upper respiratory virus and a cold, if that would help solve this disappearing hearing act.
