What Causes Reduced Pulse Rate With Chronic Headache?

I m taking diltiazem er 240 and my normal resting pulse has been around 65. Recently I ve caught a cold and am currently taking Pseudephedrine, guafeniscen, and dextromethorifan. I would expect the Sudafed to increase my BP and heart rate but I m currently getting 120/72 with a pulse of 55. I also have a killer headache even after taking Duexis about two hours ago.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

As you stated the pseudoephedrine may raise your blood pressure and may also affect your heart rate. Dextromethorphan is more associated with a slowing down of processes, though it is not known to specifically affect the heart rate.

At this point of time, you can monitor the heart rate, though the response is abnormal, it is not dangerous.

Both dextromethorphan and guaifenesin have headaches listed as possible side effects so they may be contributing to the headache. Your illness in general (cough and cold), would also add to the headache as well.

I hope this helps
