What Causes Reduced White Blood Cell Count?

59 year old man has white blood cell count of 3.7 Two years ago it was 4.7 Neutrophils 61 Monocytes 7.8,Eos 1.7, Basos 0.5, lymphs 29, neutrophils {Absolute} 2250 lymphs {absolute] 1080 monocytes [absolute]289 eos [absolute] 63 baso [absolute] 19 Is this not good with the 3.7 white blood cellcount? I think everything is good except the white blood cells ay 3.7 Do the other things play a part in this being so low? XXXXXXX Thanks

Hello, thanks for posting on HCM.
WBC counts or as we call it as total WBC counts is an indicator of the immunity of body in process. In simple terms whenever there are any foreign bodies in blood like bacteria.
So, if your WBC count is at lower levels of normal range then it means you are healthy and free of any infections.
Other things are differential count which comes in role when the total count is above 11000 so that to come to inference whether the infection is acute 1 or old ongoing infection.
