What Causes Reduction Of Fetal Movement After Taking Betnesol Injection?

Hi, My wife, who is carrying twins, into the 31st week, has taken a 12mg dose of Betnesol injection. Being a twin pregnancy, doctor wants to be prepared for a pre-term delivery. She is noticing drop in fetal movement soon after taking the first dose. Second dose (of 12mg) is to be administered again in 24 hrs. Please suggest if reduction in fetal movement is normal and TEMPORARY side effect of betnesol. Should we not take the second dose? -Muk

Hi, I have gone through your question. Betnesol is a steroid injection which is given for fetal lung maturity, if a preterm delivery occurs. It does not cause decrease in the fetal movements.
I would suggest you to consult an OBGYN specialist so that an ultrasound and biophysical profile can be done urgently to assess the well being of both the fetuses. If anything is deranged, then your doctor may decide to do an emergency caesarean section to salvage both the babies.
If ultrasound and biophysical profile are normal, then you should take the second injection of betnesol.
