What Causes Regular Menstrual Bleeding During Menopause?

My last period was September 2013, before that they were coming about every 6 months for the previous 2 years, yesterday I woke up and was bleeding, it looks like a very heavy flow & I am also having the normal signs of a period, Over the last 3 months I have been dieting & have lost 34 pounds I am still considerably overweight by about 40 pounds. I really thought I was finished with menopause I am 52 years old, could the weight gain have stopped the periods & the loss caused them to start again. I have no one to compare myself to my Mom & Grandmother both had a complete hysterectomy in their early 30 s & the other Grandmother passed away in her late 20 s, no sisters that could help either. I really can t afford to go to the doctor I have no insurance. Thank you for any info you can give me.

OBGYN, Maternal and Fetal Medicine 's  Response
Hi, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. Irregular and heavy bleeding is common in perimenopausal period. However, in such situation, endometrial biopsy should be done to rule out endometrial hyperplasia or carcinoma. Moreover pap smear should be done to rule out cervical cancer.
I would suggest you to consult an OBGYN specialist to get properly examined and investigated, and further management should be done accordingly.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
Wishing you good health.
