I have had insomnia my entire life, taking very long to get to sleep, spending some nights without sleeping at all, and waking multiple times during he night, I follow good sleep hygiene - little caffeine, dark room, cool room, white noise machine, etc. I recently was prescribed oral prednisone in decreasing doses for sciatica. I took 60 mg for 2 days, then 40 for 2 days and 20 for two days. I slept so well without being restless on the 40 mg, but know the side effects of steroids are significant. I have occasional restless leg syndrome, but while resting comfortably on steroids Inoticed that I seem to have restless body syndrome that is, every few seconds I have to shift position or scratch an itch or move for some reason, so I don t get to sleep for hours. Is there a medical explanation for the steroid response? Is there something safe I can take. Advil PM makes me groggy the next day, and I have used low doses of Halcyon for short terms. Thanks
