What Causes Restlessness And Constipation Post DHS Surgery?

Hi Doc, my 78 years old father underwent DHS surgery for right side broken femur 30.09.2015. Surgery was success. He is becoming restless and irritable. He just wants to get up and move he is becoming restless. Also finding difficulty in passing stool. Suggest how to handle him

Hello,

It may be due to delerium which is quite common among old age individuals after a major surgery. Generally, it will improve once be shifted to home or comfortable environment. In severe cases low dose sedatives like lorazepam is usually given. He can take over the counter available laxatives like lactulose for constipation.
