What Causes Right-sided Abdominal Pain Radiating To The Back?

I m having pain on the right side of my stomach that radiates to my back. It is tender, sharp and steady pain. No fever, no vomitting. Had a SCAT scan. Doctor could not find anything. No schedule for an ultrasound. Intially thought it was shingles, but no rash occurred.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I understand your concern.

The pain on the right side of your stomach radiating to your back, which is tender, sharp and steady pain, could be due to:
- liver/pancreas issues: abdominal ultrasound, liver/pancreas/kidney function tests recommended further
- colitis
- shingles without notable rash : especially if pain is along the nerve pathway

Run the recommended tests first, then, if everything is ok, your doctor might take blood/saliva or cerebrospinal fluid sample to test for VZV antibodies to confirm shingles.

Hope this helps.
