Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have severe stabbing pain in face mostly on right side. This condition comes on usually in the afternoon and evening and has been occurring for months. I have been referred to a neurologist, but have not been able to get an appointment before late March. Is there anything I can do in the meantime?
It looks like pain on right side of face that comes and goes is pointing towards nerve related pain that can be Trigeminal Neuralgia Trigeminal nerve is the nerve of face and and when the function of the nerve branches is disturbed like during any traumatic injury, compression with any major artery or tumor etc can be a cause.. To get it confirmed, you should consult a Neurophysician and he will advise you an MRI scan for ruling out the cause.. In case if the pain is nerve related, you can be advised neurotic pain relievers like Carbamazipine, Gabapantin etc..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Arora.
