Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Recently, I have been waking up to my jaw completely locked at night. I have never had any serious issues with my jaw actually locking, but it does bother me when it jolts out of place or pops while I m eating or yawning. What is the cause of this and how can I stop it?
As per your query you have rigidity in your jaw on waking up . Well the symptoms you mention in query are pointing towards a condition known as bruxism or grinding of teeth at night . There can be many reasons for bruxism like stress ( most common ) , misalignment of teeth , dental infection or neurological reasons . I would suggest you to consult dentist for proper examination . Doctor will take history , examine physically or examine with probe . Doctor may also order Orthopantomograph to confirm the diagnosis . Doctor may give you night guard ,prescribe muscle relaxant or refer you to oral surgeon or othodontist for proper alignment of teeth . For now do light exercises of jaw , start physical therapy of jaw muscles , eat soft food and do yoga and meditatio to relax yourself .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
