What Causes Ringing In The Ears And Imbalance Issues?

I have had ringing in the ears for many years, about 5 years ago, I started going deaf in one ear. About 3 years ago, I started having a balance problem. About 2 years ago, I started having major difficulty going up stairs (have to hold on and pull) About 6 months ago, I started having bad acid reflux and the doctors are saying the pain in my ear is from the acid. They have done two MRI s of my head and found nothing. My balance is getting worse constantly and the noise in my left ear is extremely loud. What is wrong with me?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Hyperacusis is a hearing disorder that makes it hard to deal with everyday sounds. If you have it, certain sounds may seem unbearably loud even though people around you don't seem to notice them.

1. An injury to your head (for instance, one cause by an airbag)
2. Damage to one or both ears because of medications or toxins
3. A viral infection that affects your inner ear or facial nerve (Bell's palsy)
4. Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder
5. Lyme disease
6. Tay–Sachs disease
7. Migraine headaches
8. Using Valium regularly
9. Certain kinds of epilepsy
10. Chronic fatigue syndrome
11. Meniere's disease
12. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
13. Depression
14. Autism.

Please consult your ENT specialist. He will examine for appropriate cause for your problem and treat you accordingly.

Take care.
