What Causes Rough, Scaly Patch Of Skin On Ankle?

Hey, I ve got a question. First off, I m a 20 year old female, Asian-Hispanic. I don t have any allergies, and I don t take medication. I ve had this dry, rough, scaly patch of skin on my ankle for about 3 or 4 months now. Every now and then it seems to flare up and get really itchy and burns when scratched or if lotion is put on it. Afterwards, it seems to subside for a couple weeks before doing it again. It hasn t changed size, and it s not really discolored (slightly darker than the surrounding skin, but that could be from friction). Just wondering what it could be? Should I be worried

My Dear

Welcome to Healthcaremagic!
I have noted your details and concerns.

I find that most of my patients with Discoid Eczema present with a history like yours.

I prescribe to them a moderately potent Steroid cream like Betamathasone along with anti allergic with nearly excellent response in all of them. As they stabilize, i reduce the frequency and potency of steroid preparation till I have completely weaned them off and at that stage I maintain them on plain moisturizers and barrier creams like Siloderm. I always advise them to prevent riggers like soaps, chemicals, certain garments or activities which keeps them free for long intermissions.

As the active lesion subside, the pigmentation part will recover by itself.
I am sure you will do very well by taking due care and medication.

Best wishes from Healthcaremagic, Dear!
