Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Why is my skin rough several weeks after a sunburn? I live in the tropics, and occasionally get a little too much sun, but this time, after the burn peeled/healed, my skin remains rough, like it s still peeling. Exfoliating via salt scrub/washcloth is not effective, nor is lotion. Female, age 53. How can I get my skin to be smooth again?
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of rough skin after a sunburn. The symptoms you describe in your query indicates towards a condition of severe sunburn in which blisters and roughness of skin don't pop up immediately but appears after sometime. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to drink plenty of water and fluids. Apply aloe vera gel. Apply cold compresses to affected area and cover the area to prevent the further damage of the skin. You should apply broad spectrum sunscreen with SPF15 on affected area. If symptoms keeps on persisting visit dermatologist once and get complete examination done and start treatment after proper prescription.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
