RI have had stools that are like elk pellets. This started over a year ago. I have visited two PAs whose advice was to do a total clean out (mag sulfate), drink lots of water, increase my fiber intake, etc. I was already doing all of those except the mag sulfate. I also eat five prunes each am and take two Dulcosate Na @ HS. No change. The stools are always in round pellet form. They are firm, not connected, and have little odor? I am an RN of very long tenure. Never have I heard of this and I have no idea who to go to for help. About the time I was starting this, I had a gastric bleed, associated with NSAIDS. Our nearest available medical help (we live in a remote mountainous area of Idaho with a small clinic thirty miles from us in either direction) eventually advised me to go to the ER of a hospital in a town where they had a GI doctor. He hospitalized me, took me to surgery and did several cauterizations. While I was in the hospital, I told him about my problem with the bowels. He replied that we d talk about that later. That never happened. I thought I could figure it out. It is consistantly. I have to work at having BMs. I am now having a nagging ache in my abdomen....slightly to the left of my mid-abdomen. Where do I go for help? Which kind of doctor? I am 80 years of age, and run an active business from March thru October. I need someone s advice.
