What Causes Rumbling Sounds From Throat While Breathing?

My 17 Year Old son has a strange sound coning from his throat0chest at times while breathing. It s almost like a rumbling sound - not a wheeze. He has been to his primary and also to the ER and had all kinds of tests. No one seems to know what is causing it. Any ideas?

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hello,
this sound can be due to some obstruction in respiratory tract from nose to lungs.
Please tell us more about your son .
What is his built and weight.
When does noise come, while breathing in or out.
While sleeping or even during daytime.
If it is inspiratory I.e while breathing in it is usually up to the larynx e.g laryngeal tonsillar even adenoids.
I would suggest you to get fibre optic endoscopy. To visualise any obstruction.
