What Causes Salty Taste In Mouth, Tingling Tenderness In Lips And Tongue?

Last week I had swelling and tingling of lips, irritated soft palate and tongue, hoarseness, Po2 95 but lungs clear. My allergist did blood work, awaiting results. Took Prednisone 60mg x 2 days and 40mg x 2 days. Most symptoms have cleared but lips are tingling, tip of tongue tender and food tastes extra salty. I normally really like the taste of salt but even small green olives are almost too salty tasting for me now.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain the symptoms of swelling and tingling of lipsalong with irritated palate and tongue along with hoarseness of voice seems to be due to allergic reaction only and can be due to any food or medicine or any other unknown allergen..
As the symptoms improved with steroid Prednisone it further confirm allergic reaction..
As your tongue seems to be irritated it is leading to exaggeration of taste..
I would suggest you to take Ibuprofen, gargle with a numbing mouthwash to relieve pain and soreness, suck ice and rinse with cold water..
Take multivitamins daily..
Once the allergic testing results are available treatment of the cause can be done accordingly..
If allergic reaction is ruled out avoid exposure to allergen tto prevent recurring episodes..
You can also take anti allergics like Benadryl to reduce allergy symptoms in case if there is exposure to allergen..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
