Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am currently being treated for Sarcoidosis, since 2009. In my opinion it s progressing: originally lymph nodes and lungs; now also, spleen, possible aortitis; periodic fatigue (almost daily); possible viral infection issues. In 2006, I visited Phoenix, AZ and had mysterious flu symptoms for 4 days. AZ dr stated I probably had valley disease/fever . Could coccidiomycosis have caused Sarcoidosis? Could I still have coccidiomycosis?
No, coccoidiodomycosis can not cause sarcoidosis.
Coccoidiodomycosis is caused by fungus. While sarcoidosis is an autoimmune disease, it is not infective disease so can not be caused by fungus or bacteria.
It is seen in individuals with altered immune response to own antigens. Though exact etiology is not identified but great response from steroid therapy is suggestive of auto immune etiology more.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Kaushal Bhavsar,
Pulmonologist
