What Causes Scab On The Helix Of Ear?

I have what feels like a scab in the helix of my outer ear. It seems likes it getting bigger and bigger. It started out just feeling like a sore then I began having crusties in the area now is a scab. Its also beginning to be sore on the same part of the other ear. I am 20.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have scab on the helix of ear. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query, but in your case the symptoms are probably due to chondrodermatitis nodularis chronica helicis . It is a painful inflammatory condition affecting the ear. It is sometimes called Winkler disease. I would suggest you to avoid sleeping on the affected ear , wear a warm hat over the ears when outside in the cold and wind and keep it clean and dry . If condition doesn't get well then consult dermatologist for proper examination. Doctor may treat the lesion with a cortisone injection or freeze it with liquid nitrogen to promote healing , collagen may be injected under the skin or topical 2% glyceryl trinitrate may be prescribed in severe cases to apply twice daily .
