What Causes Scanty Periods While On Vitamin B12 Shots?

I m 28 years old and I had pernicious anemia for a long time but only started my treatment last year. I have been on b12 shots for 1 year and noticed that my period started getting lighter with no cramps. I missed period in January and February. Does b12 stop periods? I m not sexually active.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Vitamin B12 shots will not cause irregularity in menstrual cycles. However, since you have been diagnosed with pernicious anemia, there is a possibility that you have hypothyroidism (the two conditions can co-occur), which can cause menstrual irregularity. So please be advised to undergo thyroid function test.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
