What Causes Scrapes On Legs And Arms?

My daughter has several scrapes on her legs and one arm from a track meet that was held on a turf surface. They have become red and puffy without her scratching and with treated with topical cream and given oral Benadryl. Now she has several red itchy spots around the scrapes and on her arms.(none on her trunk) They are itchy and seem to be spreading. I initially thought she was having an allergic reaction to something but I just don t know.

Dermatologist 's  Response
My Dear

Welcome to the site!

I have noted your history and concerns and feel that your daughter has developed a condition called Infectious Eczematoid Dermatitis which presents exactly like the picture you describes. It is an exaggerated response of the body around the sites of injury or minor abrasions.

For my patients,

1 i generally recommend frequent cleaning

2 Oral Steroids just for a day or two to control the response and then quickly switch over to plain anti allergics

3 antibiotic cover

4 Rest to the part

Nearly all patients report dramatic improvement in a day or so

Please take good care on the lines suggested

Best wishes!
