Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, I am 24 years old and have secondary amenorhea and have not had a period for over two years. Prior to this I had been on hormonal birth controls since 15 (just after starting my period). At around 20 I was 70kg and 169cm however since then I have lost a lot of weight and am now underweight at 50kg with my lowest being 44kg due to bulimia. My bulimia is improving however I am hoping to get on track from all aspects. My liver function is currently poor due to lifestyle (also trying to change) however my FSH and LH tests were normal indicating I was in the follicular stage. I have just had an ultrasound to check for PCOS and this said my ovaries are fine however my uterus was only approximately 10cc s and hence was very very small. Can you help inform me of what this means and the likely treatments and outcomes
Hi, I think you can be having hypothalamic amenorrhea. It occurs due to excess weight loss. So, when your weight will be normal, you will start getting periods normally. Bulimia is also one of the causes. But get a thyroid profile and prolactin level done to rule out any other cause. You can take some hormonal treatment for that. Hope it helps.
