What Causes Seeing And Hearing Things That Don't Exist?

My sister seems to be seeing and hearing things lately that don't exist. At nights she doesn't sleep because she hears helicopters which there isn't any and sees people outdoors who are not there. Before all this happen, she use to tell me certain people were talking about her but my response to that was that she was overthinking things and I didn't think everybody was talking about her that it was all in her mind and I think it got to her. What is this called and is there any cure for it? Pleas help because I'm really worried about her
