What Causes Seizure In A 5 Month Old Infant?

5 month old Granddaughter has been bright eyed and has exceptional eye contact, interacts with everyone, is feeding herself, laughs, sees people and makes contact 20 feet away, interacts above her age, and is crawling already. She just had a blank out 20 second seizure (no convulsions) and then came around - while she was eating. More than normal up until my Son and Daughter in Law saw this. Taking her to the Dr. on Tuesday and are monitoring her. What could cause this? Probably needs an EEG? Just brain growing rapidly in the first year of something more serious?

Oncologist 's  Response
Hello,

In some cases, the seizures may be due to a genetic or chromosomal problem. In other cases, no cause can be found. Febrile tonic-clonic (convulsive) seizures also commonly occur in babies and children aged 6 months to 5 years, with a rising fever.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Esmeralda Sera, Oncologist
