What Causes Sensation Of Having Swollen Throat When Diagnosed With Sjogren's Syndrome?

Hi, I have been diagnosed with Sjogren's. Lately my throat feels "swollen", I'm not really having trouble eating or drinking it's just feels like it's swollen. More uncomfortable than anything. No problems breathing. Is this a symptom of the Sjorgren's?

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain the swollen feeling in throat when having Sjogren's syndrome can be due to dry mouth due to which there is dryness in throat and the throat may get inflamed along with enlargement of tonsils and lymph nodes..

Due to dry throat there can be irritation and uncomfortable feeling in throat causing feeling of swelling..

In some cases fungal infection known as Thrush in the mouth and throat can occur when you have dry mouth and it can cause feeling of swelling and discomfort..

I would suggest you to consult an ENT exert to get checked that whether the throat is really swollen or not and get treated accordingly..

As it is due to dryness using saliva stimulants like sour candies and sugarfree chewing gums can help in stimulating saliva flow..

Use saliva substitutes containing methyl cellulose to lubrcate mouth and throat..

Pilocarpine is a drug given to stimulate saliva flow..

Do saline gargles..

Drink plenty of cold water and other fluids..

Avoid hot and spicy food..

In case if fungal infection is found antifungal oral medicines like fluconazole and itraconazole can help along with nystation mouth wash and antifungal lozenges..

Hope this information helps..
