What Causes Sensation Of Pressure Surrounding Left Ear?

I ve had a sensation of pressure surrounding my left ear on and off for a month. Specifically I have had a feeling of numbness around my left eye, particularly near the brow, as well as the temple and behind my ear. I ve been experiencing headaches and occasional dizziness. Generally there is a dull pain around the general ear area, and sometimes brief periods of sharp pain either inside or surrounding the ear. I fly quite often, and when I try to equalise my ears, the affected side pops yet does not feel clear. I think this blocked feeling is also affecting my quality of hearing slightly. I had a lot of issues with my ears as a child... I m now 24 and haven t had an issue for many many years. It s kind of a confusing feeling as at times I feel fine and then I get the headache and the other symptoms...I often cannot pin point whether its my head or ear that is causing the issue... Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hello,

I can understand your concern. It seems that ear and not head is the cause of the symptoms you are experiencing. In addition, you do have history of ear infection, which makes it point more towards the ear infection.

The headache you are getting might be the result of referred pain from ear. Also, the dizziness can be due to infection in the ear causing vertigo.

Thus, I would advise you to visit an ENT specialist for the clinical examination of the ear and further investigations to diagnose the problem and decide on the management of the disorder.

I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HCM. I wish you feel better soon.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
