What Causes Sensitivity To Light Post Cataract Surgery?

Hi, I had cataract surgery with a lens implant two weeks ago. I developed a bacterial infection 3 days after surgery. I caught it early and the infection is at bay. I am now left with extreme sensitivity to light like a permanent camera flash in my eye. Will this go away?

Hello,

I can understand your concern. Having sensitivity to light after cataract surgery is very common. You had a cloudy lens that prevented transmission of light before this surgery and now light is passing through the lens so this kind of sensitivity is quite natural. You can feel this way for a few weeks to months, but it will go away on its own.

You should take care that light source is on your back or above you and not in right front of you.

I hope this information helps. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. I wish you good recovery.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
