What Causes Sever Eye Pain With Fever?

My 4 year old son has sudden severe eye pain, he denies anything hitting his eye. I am an RN, I flushed his eye with sterile saline and he says he cant open his eyes hecause his right eye hurts so bad. He also has a fever of 100. He was screaming and crying and finally fell asleep. what could be causing the pain?

Hello
It seems from the history that your 4 year old son is having eye pain with fever. It is common to have eye pain in fever because of referred pain from headache and from eye infection as a result of infection.
This requires treatment of fever and general symptoms. For eye pain, antibiotic eye drops and anti-inflammatory drugs are sufficient.
