What Causes Sever Throat Pain And Difficulty In Swallowing?

54 yrs old. type 2 diabetic (insulin). fibromyalgia. went to walk in 10 days ago. Doctor felt I had strep throat. Told him it was too painful to be strep. Two days later I was at emergency. Every swallow was excruciating. NO fever . Was put on IV antibiotics...steriods etc. After three rounds of treatment, I can swallow with just discomfort. It is not going away though. Still causing my ear and teeth to hurt. Cat scan done and no lumps of pus found. Should I continue to seek treatment or should I give it more time. Really scared it might return to the way it was.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

As per your history, it may be due to tonsillitis.

For that, you can do saline or Betadine gargles. Take steam inhalation.

In case of fever, you may require tablet acetaminophen and antibiotics like azithromycin after consultation.

Along with that, you may require complete hemogram, chest X-ray after consultation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shyam B. Kale, General & Family Physician
