What Causes Severe Abdominal Bloating, Pain And Gastritis?

Hello, my name is Tallie. I m a 22yr old female. and I think I might ve had a partial bowel obstruction on Friday. I ve had low acid in my stomach for some time now. My diet during the week consists of mainly fruits and vegetables because they digest easier. Or at least the fruit does. But the one day I cheated I ended up waking up the next morning and experienced excruciating pain in my upper abdominal that grew until I was bedridden, I had some diarrhea.. And tons of gurgling and gas, until nothing. I woke up the next morning feeling extremely bloated, tender all over my stomach, and achey all around it. I ended up going into the ER Saturday for blood work and a urine sample. My blood work came out clear. But They told me I have a UTI, and gave me an antibiotic. But they never addressed the pain or the other symptoms I was having. They didn t take any X-rays or really talk to me very much. Today I am extremely bloated, I have no appetite, and I feel like there is almost a bubble of gas or something on my upper left side. Could be my stomach. My stomach is all puffy and bloated and feels like I never want to eat again. I ve been drinking cranberry juice for my infection, and I drank some thicker mango juice yesterday to see how my body would handle food .. I got some nasty acid reflux, and pooped a tiny bit this morning. (I m guessing that was the mango juice) My question is, should I just wait it out at home and continue to hydrate and drink fluids until my symptoms subside since I might ve passed the partial obstruction. But i really don t know if I did get it all out. Or.. Should I go back into the hospital for an x-Ray? Or something?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The amount of severe abdomen pain, bloating, gastritis indicates underlying gut infection through some sort of bacterial infection. Though urine microscopy is normal (which is the usual case), associated evaluation with complete hemogram, serum Widal test is very much essential and X-ray or ultrasound need is as per the clinician concern after the physical examination and co relation of symptoms with lab data.

If the tablets are not giving best relief, one has to get:
- Injection doses of intravenous proton pump inhibitor
- Supportive IV fluids with antibiotics of GI coverage as metronidazole, ceftriaxone or else
- Oral pro and pre biotics to cover the intestine flora harmony
- Dietary precautions to avoid all spices, non-veg, junk food items
- Avoid alcohol or other abuse substances if used

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
